“How cool is it to have a system where any kind of data can be loaded, mapped, searched, analyzed, and shared with everyone on a team?” – CEO & Founder Alan Lindsey
Overview
The Emperor Tamarin release adds tremendous improvements in capability to PetroDE. Previously the system focused on search, visualization, and analysis based on IHS and Drillinginfo data alone. Now users of Emperor Tamarin can work with data from any source provided in CSV or shapefile format. For example, news and rigs can now be searched by Operator or Formation, and user-uploaded EUR data can be linked to IHS and searched as well.
In addition, Emperor Tamarin adds numerous features to help users organize their data and provide appropriate security for sensitive data sets.
Generalized Import / Export
- Import CSV
- Import Shapefile
- Format and symbolize layers created from shapefiles and CSVs
- Linked Layers
- Export map screen
- Export search results
- Export heat map as shapefile
- Export heat map as csv
- Export input chart data as CSV
- Export chart image
The upcoming Emperor Tamarin release will allow CSV and shapefiles of up to 200,000 rows to be imported into PetroDE. These user-imported layers will be available to search, visualize, and analyze using our integrated search/mapping/charting system. As the data is loaded, user can specify symbology, line thickness, color, etc. based on the imported data itself.
As layers are imported, they can be linked to existing layers in PetroDE. For example, a user can import completion information for a well, and left-join that to existing IHS data. That allows the dataset to be mapped, and cross-plots of attributes from IHS to be plotted against user-loaded attributes.
After a search has been done, users can download all of the attributes available from PetroDE for use in other applications.
Sometimes users need to use data that PetroDE uses to create its charts in other applications. Emperor Tamarin now allows that data to be downloaded with a click. Users can also generate a PNG image of any map displayed and chart generated.
Heat maps are critical in identifying core parts of plays. PetroDE’s current heat maps are a very popular display, and with the release of Emperor Tamarin, the statistics behind those heat maps can be exported for use in other applications. All of the heat map statistics can be downloaded as a CSV for gridding and contouring in another application, or as a shapefile for easy import and display.
Flexible Search and Visualization
- Search imported data
- Histograms by user specified variables
- Simple bar charts by user specified variables
- Cross plots by user specified variables
- Heat maps by user specified variables
- Modify display order of layers
- Addition of histograms to refine for numeric and date fields
PetroDE handles loading of data from a number of sources like IHS, Drillinginfo, and RigData, but users also want to load data themselves so that it can be easily searched, mapped, and visualized.
With Emperor Tamarin, users can now create histograms, display cross-plots, create heat maps and more with any CSV or shapefile data that they load into the system. And all of that can be done on data that fits the searches specified in PetroDE.
For example, a user can import EUR data, link that to IHS, search on that data to restrict to gross perforated interval of 5,000 to 7,000 ft, then create histograms of that EUR.
The new release also allows display order of layers to be easily controlled. A button on the map pops up the Active Layer controller where layers can be dragged to the desired order and turned on and off as needed.
Users can easily explore the data in PetroDE using our upgraded Refine function. With Refine, users can see histograms of numeric and date data, and counts for data in text fields. For example, if a data set has a 12-month cumulative oil production column, Refine lets a user easily see on a histogram the limits of that data and how much is within certain ranges, then limit the query to the desired range graphically. If a column showing operator is present, refine will show the number of wells with a given operator, and allow the query to be updated with just the desired operators.
Flexible Data Organization
Emperor Tamarin adds significantly improved controls of access to data within PetroDE. Now a company can create a workbook for each team in a company, and limit access to those workbooks to only appropriate employees. An Administrative Control Panel allows system administrators to configure access as needed.
Emperor Tamarin also provides for creation of multiple levels of folders to improve organization. Users can rename and reorder folders and layers as needed.
Updated UI
The user interface in Emperor Tamarin has been updated to make PetroDE even easier to use than before using new UI flows to smoothly guide users to the next actions.. Now, almost all buttons are labeled with text, so users know what capabilities are available. In Advanced Search, more complex queries can now be easily built.
With Emperor Tamarin, users can now resize and reorganize their display frames at will. This allows users to take advantage of screen real-estate as their work requires.
PetroDE behind your firewall
- Vesmir Private Accelerated Cloud (VPAC)
- Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)
Enterprise clients often have special needs with regards to handling a large number of users and sensitive data.
PetroDE has created the Vesmir Private Accelerated Cloud (VPAC) single-client environment to provide real-time analytics for sensitive data behind your firewall. The VPAC installation is directly connected to a company’s network via VPN, just like their satellite offices are connected to the main office. This provides an additional layer of security for your corporate resources, while leveraging our high-performance parallel database and compute system.
PetroDE enterprise clients can now use our Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) system for user access control. With SAML, PetroDE checks against Microsoft’s Active Directory or other identity provider specified by the client. Using this approach provides for single sign-on, and avoids extra login to PetroDE itself. It also allows our Enterprise clients to easily control access from outside of PetroDE. If an employee leaves a company, they can be delisted from Active Directory and automatically denied access to PetroDE, keeping data and analysis secure.
